Ubuntu - how does this show up elsewhere? 12 Replies

Living and working in Africa I'm deeply influenced by the philosophy and practices of ubuntu - "I am because we are". This way of being in the world  was both deeply troubling andreassuring while I…Continue

Good evening Switzerland (amongst other connections) in Africa.
Good to hear from you and welcome to having expanded your work to another continent. I look forward to trading training stories about Brief Coaching Cape Town and Brief Coaching Kampala when we see each other later in Basel. 24 participants - impressive and likely to create a ripple that makes a difference.

Good Morning - Africa
I have just delivered my first 4 training days of a Brief Coach Training in Kampala, Uganda. It was my first time in Africa and I was so pleasantly thrilled about the 24 participants:
- extremely hardworking when it comes to getting the most out of 7.5 training hours a days
- very serious in creating and maintaining a learning atmosphere of mutual exchange and discovery
- full of smiles, energy, rythm and laughter, when it come to playfully taking in "some theory"
- exceptionally fast-learning and brilliant in understanding the essence of Brief Coaching
- unstoppable in immediately trying out and putting to practice whatever works.
I am very much looking forward to next time in Ocotber

Great idea and thanks for zooming in on Ubuntu, Svea...!
I also agree with Lizette's sentiments about a space for Africa - and for discussions within a South Africa community there's also SOL-SA on LinkedIn....
We work in the private and public sectors, we train coaches and consultants and share the philosophies of SF-Thinking, e.g. in 'supervision' -- C-i-C, short for Coaching-Communities- in -Caring-Connectedness.

Hallo everyone.
Lovely to see you connecting here, Belinda!
I am looking forward to have this space to interact about SF work in Africa, and especially in South Africa. We (the Coaching Cafe) work mostly in business and would love to SF brief practice become more recognised and used in African business contexts.

Dear Svea,
would like to join to learn about Africa and to learn on how to better discover and understand the Hungarian situation.
Guess your way of exploring will be useful for me...
Take care
Monika

When I work in Cape Town I include Solution-focused brief coaching in the business courses I am academic co-ordinator for. These courses are attended by South Africans as well as people from other parts of Africa - Tanzania, Zimbawbwe, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, amongst others. I don't have a well developed way to follow-up on what flows from the exposure to what I offer. Students keep in touch via an electronic platform and the assignments they submit include how they go about creating business improvement in their companies by using SF brief coaching. Quite different from where doing root cause analyses takes them.

In may 2010 I attended the Solution-focused Brief Summit in Malmo and was struck by the discussion about locating SF in space and time - who is doing what where that they consider to be SF? I'd like to hear more about those working in or somehow involved in SFB thought and practice in Africa. Please post your contributions ...
