Welcome to the brainy group on solworld-ning

Interested in brains, neuroscience, evolution and what science can bring to SF and what SF can bring to neuroscience? You come to the right place. Already there is lots of things I've found that are relevant for SF. How about: future memory, mirror neurons, the relationship between emotions and thinking/behavior, how stress makes us not think in terms of possibilities and future, how stress makes our brain scan for problems... the list goes on.

If you are as curious as me.... this is the place

Dear all. I heard Matthias Varga von Kibéd talking about a concept named (in German): Proskopisch episodisches Gedächtnis what in English might be proscopic episodic memory. As source he names Michael Hjerth. Can anybody give me more information about it and maybe some indication on papers?

Welcome to the group, Fredrike.
To everyone, I bought the hard cover version of "Brain Rules" by John Medina. It came with a very informative and educational DVD. I use it occasionally in training. Great resource and fun to watch with friends.

Finally I had the time to check out this video...
I really enjoyed it!
Medina turns out to be a very engaging speaker!
Plus now I have more arguments to support my unhealthy addiction to running... :)
Thanks for the video,
ciao,
Paolo

Alan, quite a moving video. It is really interesting to see what happens in the brain. I have some doubts about the philosophical (and scientific) implications about what she is saying, though. The experience must of course have been real. But then she turns a bit mystical for me. For a really practicall down to earth view on how brain science is useful for just about everyone, take a loot at John Medina, the author of Brain Rules:

Michael, you might have seem this one before.
Jill Bolte Taylor: My stroke of insight...

It illustrates dramatically the two sides of the brain and a how SF might work in both. Lots of other videos on the brain on TED. Alan.
