Thanks Paul (and everyone else in the conversation).  I'm pleased to read reference to "The research ... also in coaching" - does anyone have specific details/references?

We Fear Change - But a Future Perfect Helps!

A good friend, fellow Buddhist and fellow coach, by the name of Jñānagarbha, came on an SF-Coaching Course I was running. When asked to summarise the Future Perfect, he made a very interesting point, even drawing on the film "Wayne's World"!Apparently in the film, Wayne's friend Garth says "We Fear Change" - and anyone who's ever been involved in a change management programme can testify to that! But.... when we imagine the future perfect in vivid detail, we make our desired change more…See More

Yes, I agree very much with your comments - how affirmation is better if its more specific and "grounded". In terms of quality of affirmation I'd say this is about 4 on the scale - but I still like the idea..... and it does seem to…

Yes, this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbk980jV7Ao about the power of affirmation is interesting: It triggered me to think, how far this is in a way related to SF. And I think: It is not. It it showing INHO a kind of unspecific affirmations…

Where are you based? (City & Country)
sfwork and windhorse:evolution
In which role(s) do you use SF ideas and tools? (You can pick more than one)
Coach, Consultant, Trainer
What is your connection to Solution Focused Work (based on Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer at BFTC Milwaukee and others)?
I train and coach for sfwork, "The Centre for Solutions Focus at Work" set up by Mark McKergow and Jenny Clarke. My first love is coaching, and I always find myself alive and energized after a good coaching session. I also love developing new applications of Solutions Focus, such as the MAGIC negotiation model and the iFLOW model of personal effectiveness.
I'm also the Learning and Development manager of windhorse:evolution, a Buddhist-run retailing business which gives all its profits to charity.
I'm an ordained Buddhist (which is where I got my name) and a keen landscape photographer. If you'd like to see my photos, I tend to post them on facebook (and you'll find me easily enough, there aren't too many people called Shakya Kumara!)

It it showing INHO a kind of unspecific affirmations like "you are doing such a important job" "your suite dresses you very well". In contrast to this SF points on very specific benefits based on interactions between me and my partner and SF is not dealing with feelings or impressions. An SF e.g. might be: "Yesterday you worked half an hour more to finish the draft of the contract and mailed it to me, so I could prepare myself yesterday evening very good for the meeting today in the morning. This was really a great help for me - thank you!"

Hi Shakya
I agree - Ivan's comment possible solutions have weaker signals were a real eye opener for me and (you too!) Weren't we going to have a chat on the phone? Should still do this (07906473610) or if you are in London give me a shout and we could meet for a coffee. Would be good to catch up and exchange ideas.
Hope all well.
